Tuesday Funnies ~ Jess again

So Jess got a toddler bed and the crib went byebye. We weren't really sure how he was going to do without bars holding him in, so of course, the first night, mom was a little hesitant, but pleasantly surprised when he actually stayed there and slept most of the night. The second night went okay as well. So the other day, it was nap time and she put him in his bed and told him it was nighnight time. As she closes the door she hears Jess....."Mean....Mom....Mean....Mom....Mean....Mom".
She struggles not to laugh right then and there, but manages to walk away before letting the belly laugh take over.
Where do kids learn these things??

Tuesday Funnies 2/10/09

Well, I haven't posted a Tuesday Funny in awhile, but I have a good one this week.

I was talking to Laurie on the phone the other day and she was telling me stories about Kersten and Jess. Laurie and Fred have decided that as long as Jess isn't potty trained, they'll keep trying for one more baby. Well, Kersten, more than anything in the world, really wants a baby sister. The other day Jess was in the bathroom while she was going potty and copying his sissy. He is an imitator by nature at this age and pottying is no different. Kersten was telling mommy she didn't want Jess to be potty trained because if he was, she wouldn't get her baby sister. Mommy told her that she was the one that showed him how to potty. Kersten, 3.5 years old, respond with, "Well, that won't happen again!".

Can you believe her? Love the kid!

Not Me Monday

I did not give in to my snowman fettish and buy even more on clearance this week while shopping in the clearance aisle at Fleet Farm. Nope, I resisted!

Two days later, I did not go to my favorite drug store and spend $75 on $300 worth of clearance items, some of which included snowmen.

I did not go to Walmart this week and spend over $150 in groceries. I mean, I was only gone for five weeks, what could I possibly have needed??

I then did not go back the next day and spend $75 in vitamins and supplements. Nope, Walmart doesn't own me!

I did not unload my car after being gone for five weeks from home and leave everything sitting in the kitchen or living room just as it sat. Nope, I unpacked it all! This is how I roll!

I did not actually put away said luggage the day after returning home after being gone for five weeks. I actually let it sit there and lived out of the suitcase, I mean, why put it away?

I did not spend an entire four hours checking email after returning to work after five weeks of leave. Furthermore, I did not spend the entire week catching up on said opened email. Nope, I had real work to do.

I did not tell my three-year-old niece Kersten that we only read books at bedtime when she asked me to read to her because I wasn't feeling the best, and I was watching the "In the Womb" special on National Geographic. Reading books means bedtime, right?

Olive Garden ~ Pittman Style

So this weekend at the Peaslee's, I decided since we love Olive Garden so much, we'd do our own soup, salad and breadsticks night.
I started researching the web for recipes a couple of weeks ago after a girl at work brought in a version of Zuppa Toscana that was awesome. She gave me that recipe, and then I went searching for a Pasta Fajoli recipe, and the salad dressing recipe.
The recipes were close to the Olive Garden version, and we had a plethora of food to go around since I made two kinds of soup, so we actually had it for dinner Saturday night and again for lunch on Sunday.
I meant to bring home a bowl of soup for my lunch today, but I forgot it, so I imagine Fred will take it or Laurie will eat it.
It was so yummy, we all enjoyed our "Olive Garden" feast, for a much more affordable price!
I keep forgetting to take pictures when I make these things, so maybe I'll remember the next time.

Out of the mouths of babes.........

Now, you have to know that for the most part, political talk of any kind, does not happen around the children. They might hear or see a commercial, but we try to not discuss it in the house as Mommy, Daddy and Mamie all have differing opinions.

My three-year-old niece Kersten found a flyer in her house(don't know how it got there let alone stayed there) with Barack Obama's picture and she knew who it was and she was saying his name. Mommy looked over and saw she had the flyer so Mommy began to explain to her that this was a big day in our history because it is the first time that an African American had been voted President. Her response was priceless she asked "Where do we go with Barack Obama mommy? Where do we go?"

I told her that was a good question and we would have to wait and see.

Favorite Foto Friday ~ 10/24/08

This week, I am posting about football. In particular, high school football. To be even more exact, Lewiston-Altura.

They played their first playoff game on Tuesday at home against the Medford Falcons and won 36-14. See the Winona Post writeup for more details.

This Saturday, they play round two of the playoffs against Rushford-Peterson, in Rushford.

Joey hasn't had much playing time this year as a 10th grader, but he has been faithful about sitting on the sidelines and supporting his team. I say that means just as much as playing.

So this post is for Joey, in the hopes that Lewiston-Altura can win against Rushford-Peterson, whom have the edge on the game, but we all know that doesn't always mean anything.

Tuesday Funnies ~ Kersten

Friday night Kersten and I were snuggling on the couch when she turned around to look at me and say something. As she is breathing on me, I am cringing at the bad smell of her breath. I looked at Laurie and asked her if she was showing any signs of being sick. My mom could always tell when us kids were getting strep cause our breath would be really bad. The kid had just brushed her teeth too, so no reason for it.
So a few minutes later Kersten looks at me with her puppy dog eyes and says "My breath hurts."
I look over at Laurie to be sure I heard that correctly and we both bust out laughing.
The kid never fails to amuse me!

On Saturday, Lolo came over to scrapbook with Laurie and I. Kersten was all excited cause she was going to get to do her own page. Enter, the glue stick. For the next hour she had to do all the gluing for Mommy. She was planning to go outside to play after doing her page since that is where Jess was, but gluing was more fun. Going to have to make sure we hide the glue or we could be in trouble.

Pottytraining update: So Kersten is still having her off and on days, however, her accidents now are pretty much all potty. She does stay dry most nights thought. She goes poopoo in the toilet pretty much every time. Goofy kid just can't make up her mind to do both I guess. Mommy had set a goal of one week of no accidents and she'd get to pick out a toy. Well, apparently the concept of one week was too much for her to handle, she can make it about three days straight with no accidents and then somehow, oops. So Mommy set a goal of four days and she could wear her "Little Pony" underwear. Still on the three days and failure routine. However, the sticker incentive is going better, except that she won't choose any sticker that isn't pink(her favorite color if you didn't know). We have had to adjust the reward levels for going too.
Going potty = one sticker and a fruit snack
Going poopy = one sticker and an episode of Dora
Going both = two stickers, Dora, fruit snack and a sucker
Going dry all day = special "Princess" sticker on the calendar
4 dry days = get to wear "Little Pony" underwear

So yesterday while Mommy and Daddy went to their finance class, I was of course babysitting. Kersten had been taking a nap and I woke her up so she'd go to sleep later. Well upon waking, it is the rule to go potty, so I took her in and set her on the pot. I sat on the edge of the tub to wait. She leans over and sets her head on my lap and says she doesn't have to go. I said we needed to try and we would count to 60 and if she didn't go, we could leave. She didn't go. So we settle in on the couch to snuggle a bit cause she is still tired. Two minutes later she pops her head up, looks at me and shouts "I have to go poopy!" So we race to the bathroom and she did! YEAH!! She hasn't pooped for me before, so I gave her an extra treat. Of course Jess had to share in the fun too!
Ah, the joys of potty-training!

Tuesday Funnies ~ Random

Jess was standing on one of the kitchen chairs to try to crawl on the table. Something he loves to do on a regular basis. Josh was trying to set the table for supper, so he put him on the floor so he wouldn't be in the way. Jess was not amused and started to throw a fit. Josh looked at him and said "Use your words." This is something we are constantly telling him cause he always just screams. So Jess looks at Josh and says "NO!!" and slaps him on the leg.

Joey was sitting in the living room on the couch watching TV the other night and had his feet resting on Kersten's princess chair. Jess walks in and wanted to sit in the chair. He looks at Joey and says "MOVE!"
I think he has the use of words well in control..............even if it is only one at a time!

I was changing Jess' diaper the other day. The boy poops more than anyone I know, but this one was especially pungent. I have told him on many occasions that he is supposed to save these icky ones for those nice people in the church nursery to deal with. He looks up at me with a big ole grin on his face and laughs. HAHA, joke is on me I guess!

I was walking with my friend Dorothea to Caribou the other day and she was telling a story. Dorothea ALWAYS has stories!
Anyway, her son Chuck is in the 5th grade and has massive amounts of homework, so she or her husband usually help him every evening. Well one night, she was helping him and decided she couldn't figure out the assignment, so she goes to their room and asked her husband Rick to help out. He comes back no less than two minutes later and says he gave up on that assignment yesterday! She figures its pretty pathetic when two adults aren't smarter than a 5th grader with ADHD!

This week, I am highlighting Jess again. Boys are climbers by nature, and Jess is certainly no exception to the rule! Our church has a wonderful children's area and part of it includes a sort of fort/tunnel/slide system. Well, we got to church early this past Sunday cause Cody had to be to work by 9, so we let Jess run around in there a bit. HE LOVES IT!!!!!

Sesame Street Live!

Laurie and I took the babies to see Sesame Street Live! last week. It is a good thing I went with, no way could she have done it alone. Jess sat wonderfully for most of the first half. The second half, he was so done with sitting, he wanted to get into everything, run, play, etc.

Despite Jess, we had a wonderful time and Kersten got to see all her Sesame Street Friends. They really do put on quite a spectacular show, though I do think everything was way overpriced. People paid ten dollars for an Elmo mylar balloon for their kids, how gullible can you get? We paid nine dollars for a sno cone and a bag of cotton candy. It was completely ridiculous. So, that is my only complaint. A show for kids should have kid pricing, something affordable.

Meeting Emmalina & DLMP Family Picnic

So my department had a picnic last Wednesday. I helped with the food committee, so I got a free t-shirt out of the deal in addition to the food. I opted for four tickets for some reason, I don't know what I was thinking at the time I asked, but it worked out beautifully as it took place just prior to Sesame Street Live, so it was a great way to feed the kids, plus they had some kid activities to occupy the munchkins for a little while until the show.

I took a few pictures of the kids, but everytime I'd try to take one of Jess he'd either turn the wrong way

Prior to the picnic, we went up to the NICU to meet Kersten & Jess' baby cousin Emmalina. She was born a little more than three months early, but is doing really good. They call her a "feeder and grower" right now, she is almost breathing totally on her own, as it is, she is only on CPAP. Such a fighter! And a cutie too!

Fred & Laurie are celebrating 16 years today. Ten years ago, they were the first people I met after moving here and it is amazing the changes that have occurred in this time! Ten years, two sibling set adoptions and two natural children later, they are still some of the best, most wonderful people I know!

Tuesday Funnies ~ Kersten

Kids are forever trying to get out of doing their chores, but at three, Kersten is normally willing to oblige most things you ask. Not so much the case these days!!

Story from Laurie to me:
The other day Kersten found a bug on the carpet and wanted me to pick it up, so I did. Then she said the other piece was in a different spot. So I told her that I would vacuum it, but she had to pick up her toys. She did, then I told her to pick up her toys in the living room so I could vacuum in there too. She said, "No. That's OK mommy. You don't need to vacuum in there. I don't want to pick up my toys. It will be OK."

In other funniness, Kersten loves to be outside, but can't go out by herself, Samantha, Cody, Joey or Mom or Dad has to watch her. The other day she wanted to go out really bad and Mommy and Mamie were busy cooking and baking. Daddy was golfing. Cody was the only older kid home, but he was sleeping. She didn't care, she opens the door to the basement and as loud as she could, yelled his name, repeatedly, until he finally responded. It was soooo funny. And Cody, being the thoroughly doting big brother, obliged her even though he was napping. She has him wrapped around her finger! She was determined to go outside and outside she went!

So Laurie, Kersten and I went shopping Saturday. We needed stuff from Walmart and we also went to the Produce Market. Kersten is such a dolly, I love spending time with her and although she loves her brother Jess, having Mommy and Mamie to herself is a good time for her. We had just left the Produce Market. Mommy had taken her potty while we were there, but we weren't more than five blocks away when she announced she needed to go potty and poop. I told her we were going to the Dollar Store and she could go there. She goes, "ok, but hurry!" I told her to squeeze her "cheeks". I look back at her from the front seat and she has the biggest cheeky grin possible on her face! Oh to be so innocent! She had no idea what I meant, but tried to please me anyway! And then she asked, "why do I have to squeeze my cheeks?" I lost it, I was laughing so hard, I nearly peed my pants!

One more funny about Kersten for this week. Mommy found out a ballet studio opened up in Lewiston this summer and she has been wanting to sign Kersten up for awhile, so it was handy that one opened so close to home. Kersten shows pretty good dance skills, so Mommy figures we'll see how she does. Ballet starts on Monday and the entire time Mommy has been talking to her about going to ballet, she has told Kersten that unless she is potty trained all the way, she can't go, it is a class rule. Well, Kersten does just fine going potty in the potty, but as previously mentioned, poopy has been a big problem. Well, this week Mommy reminded her again about the "rule" and would you believe the kid is going poopy in the potty this week!? She has been so stubborn about it, I can't believe it took this ballet class to motivate her. Nothing else has worked thus far.

Silly girl!! I love you and am proud that you are a big girl now!!

Tuesday Funnies ~ Joey

So we were sitting at the table having breakfast the other day. We were discussing with Kersten how eating the rinds off of an orange is yucky and we shouldn't eat them. And then I said but some people eat watermelon rind, they pickle it. Fred then pipes up to say, watermelon rind is known to be an aphrodesiac. Joey(the 15-year-old) looks at Fred with a puzzled look on his face and says "Is that like accupuncture?"
As Laurie, Fred and I all burst into gales of laughter, Joey is standing there with a "what did I say?" look on his face.
I told Fred we had to buy the kid a dictionary.
